Variable Frequency Drives Maintenance Service

  • Variable frequency drives are common devices in industrial electrical systems, especially in manufacturing. Variable frequency drives often work in dusty environments and generate heat so regular inspection, maintenance, and repair are very necessary.
  • Common failures due to infrequent maintenance and cleaning of variable frequency drives
  • Variable frequency drives have a lot of dust and oil stuck to the board and components, causing fire and explosion.
  • When the circuit board is damp, it can easily cause short circuits and components to die.
  • Dust sticks to the aluminum heat sink, the ventilation fan cannot cool, and the variable frequency drive always operates at high temperatures, leading to aging of components, rapid damage, or frequent errors.
  • Variable frequency drives operating in environments with a lot of conductive dust such as iron filings and coal can cause short circuits and explosions of the variable frequency drive.

Regular maintenance of the variable frequency drive is very necessary.

Why is it necessary to regularly maintain the variable frequency drive?

  • Proactively prevent incidents that cause the variable frequency drive to stop working.
  • Minimize losses.
  • Ensure the quality and long-term performance of the variable frequency drive.
  • Incidents are inevitable. Without a regular maintenance plan and appropriate preventive measures, the incident can become a disaster.

The purpose of regular variable frequency drive maintenance.

  • Save valuable time for the factory.
  • Increase the life of the variable frequency drive as well as the machinery and equipment system in the factory.
  • Reduce energy consumption, thereby saving repair costs and electricity bills.
  • Help the machinery system operate more smoothly and quietly, increasing the stability of machinery and equipment.
  • The variable frequency drive operates well, thereby increasing work efficiency.

Variable frequency drive maintenance process

Variable frequency drive maintenance will be carried out in the following steps:

  • Back up the parameters set on the variable frequency drive.
  • Check the software and history of errors that the variable frequency drive has encountered before.
  • Turn off the power on the variable frequency drive, disconnect the main circuit breaker of the variable frequency drive’s power supply, and ground the metal parts related to the variable frequency drive. Hang a warning sign for equipment repair (if any).
  • Disassemble the variable frequency drive, and check all visible damage.
  • Clean the variable frequency drive fan, and measure the cooling fan with a brush, dry cloth, and dried compressed air.
  • Clean the variable frequency drive circuit boards, plugs, and contact points of the plugs with a brush, cloth, and specialized board cleaning solution.
  • Check and clean the variable frequency drive’s cooling device, add heat sink glue if necessary.
  • Measure and test rectifier diodes, IGBTs
  • Measure and test DC bus capacitors.
  • Check the variable frequency drive connecting cables including power and control cables.
  • Reinstall the variable frequency drive, and check the insulation.
  • Supply power to the variable frequency drive, check the balance between phases, and input voltage.
  • Measure and check DC bus voltage.
  • Measure and check 24VDC, and 10VDC control power sources.
  • Test run without load, with load for the variable frequency drive.
  • Check the input and output current of the variable frequency drive.
  • Optimize the setting parameters.
  • Make maintenance reports, and recommend equipment that needs to be replaced or purchased as spare.
